Title is just guessing.

I bought a NIB T-Mobile RT AC1900 after learning about asuswrt-Merlin.

I'm trying to install the latest Merlin firmware (for the AC68U) but keep getting a message saying:

Firmware upgrade unsuccessfully (sic). It may result from incorrect image or error transmission. Please check the version of firmware and try again.
Merlin instructions say for this router use Merlin AC68U firmware. BUT I see the following in the wiki installation instructions:

Starting with Asus's 3.0.0.4.380_3000, a new firmware format is used. To flash Asuswrt-Merlin on one of these newer firmwares, you will need 380.61 or newer. ...

The RT-AC68U and RT-AC56U need to be at least on firmware 378.55 (or the last 378.xxx version from Asus) before you can flash 380.xx, due to the partition size change.
Is the partition size the issue, and how do I fix that? The router came with 3.0.0.4.376_3199-xxxxxx and reports that it is the latest version from Asus. So, since 376 is less than 378.55 it sounds like partition size is either this issue or another issue I need to address.

And if I need to be on an official Asus version 380.xx or higher and the highest factory version for this model (AC1900) is 376_3199, how do I do that? I don't think (may be wrong) that I can install a newer Asus firmware for an AC68U because before discovering Merlin or buying the router, I read that Asus had changed the 1900 firmware to prevent it from installing any Asus AC68U firmware.

I need help. Arggg

The T-Mobile version is not supported nor has it ever been. Putting Asuswrt-merlin on this device is illegal. Read these links carefully.
