pfsense and n66u

I've just bought a pfsense self-built machine.

What do I need to do on the n66u to make it into just a switch/wireless AP? Assume that it's a standard set up with standard features (that's pretty much nothing).

Turn off WAN? DHCP? What about the other options?

No, simply switch it to AP mode. :)

On the ASUS disable DHCP, give it a static IP address (192.168.1.2), the pfsense would have the address of 192.168.1.1 and give out dhcp addresses 192.168.1.100+.
Only connect the network to the LAN ports.

you dont necessarily need to give the asus static IP, you can reserve one for it through pfsense. Unfortunately unlike routerOS you cant access your AP via mac address.

APs and switches dont need static IPs, they can be assigned any IP and work fine because they dont take part in routing, only bridging or switching. So go ahead and assign 0.0.0.1 ip to your asus if you want but make sure to get the subnet mask right. 255.255.255.0 will allow communication with 0.0.0.x ip incase you need to reconfigure it.
