Powerline Adapter Question

koei

New Around Here
I am considering getting a couple powerline adapters for my home network due to the unfortunate fact that my house isn't built with the house wired with CAT. However, after really thinking about process, I am a little unsure how many adapters I need. My understanding that the adapters comes in pairs. Does that mean I need a pair of adapters for "each" connection? Meaning, I have say room 1, 2, 3 that I want to have a wired connection going to. Does that mean I need to have 3 adapters on the end of my router/switch, then the respective rooms having an another 3 adapters on the wall to link up to the first 3? Furthermore, to what extent should I expect the bandwidth to degrade having a set of 3 connected as I believe they all share the same bandwidth pool.

Much appreciated if anyone can answer these questions for me.

You only need 4 powerline adapters: one attached to your router, and one in each room you want to bring connection to. It's like a LAN, where the adapters share the common electric wiring.
Since the adapters share the wiring, the bandwith gets divided between the adapters on concurrent use.

I think any you buy out of a set, you have to "pair", but I think it's VERY easy to do. This is because the data is encrypted. Once paired, you can loose power without having to pair again. Mine, you hit a security button on each device for 2 seconds, all pairs have to be hit within 2 minutes. As one of my devices was going in the garage, I did them both in the house, then unplugged one, and moved it.
