PPPoE WAN connection is not restored from 3G Backup mode

New Around Here
Hi,

First, I must say that this forum seems to be a great source of information. After buying a RT-N66U, I've been reading hours.

Anyway, returning to the subject matter, I am using the latest non-beta firmware (246). My primary internet connection is 100/10 Mbit, and it is establised using PPPoE in a 100 Mbit LAN. As a secondary backup connection, I am trying to use a Huawei E169 USB modem with a prepaid SIM card.

Other than the secondary connection, everything seems to be running fine. The problem is with the failover mechanism. I made a test by disconnecting the WAN cable. Nothing happened. However, the router switched to the 3G connection after a reboot. Then, the 3G connection seemed to work fine. What is more, after plugging the cable back in, the PPPoE WAN connection was not restored.

Regarding the WAN connection and how it is set up, there is a 15 minute wait to get a new connection from the ISP's router if it is abruptly disconnected. If the connection is closed gracefully, there is no wait to establish a new PPP session. Hence, I waited some 20 minutes, but the connection was still not restored and the router log showed no intent of trying to handshake a PPPoE connection. It was only after I rebooted the router, and the WAN reverted back to the primary PPPoE connection.

Shouldn't the router do the change to the backup mode 3G connection and back automatically without a reboot? It seems that the current behaviour is very cumbersome and unintuitive.

Recovery is known to be broken in the firmware. Once switched to the 3G failover, it never switches back to the main connection.
