New Around Here
I am relatively new to more advanced networking but I am learning.
My current setup is an RT-AC68U running merlin 384.7, hooked up to the internet using an unlocked HG612 with its UI viewable over my WAN.
So my issue is...I have tried both Ronski's HG612 modem stats program and Roseway's DSLstats to record my line stats over time but both fail to login to my modem through telnet. Here's the kicker...if I use 'putty' to telnet in to the modem directly from my laptop it works which is good for on the spot stats however both monitoring softwares mentioned fail.
I have already diagnosed the cause and 'AI protection' is the culprit. For some reason it is seeing the requests from the software as an attack and blocking it directly, talking about a PITA but I do feel AI protection is doing a job. I am running Diversion and Skynet so I do have an element of protection. At this time I don't have a VPN in place though and I don't have DNScrypt setup but I am looking into them.
So if I feel it necessary to disable the two-way IPS to log some stats from my modem will I immediately be vulnerable from outside attack? Or is there an easier way to circumvent this without disabling two-way IPS maybe by DMZing my laptop?
Any help would be great folks.
