This is not the first time this has happened - but TP-Link failed to update the domain registrations for two of their configuration domains - tplinklogin.net and tplinkextender.net. and as a result, these are now parked.

Asus had a similar problem with asusnetwork.net, which many of their older devices used for intitial configuration - Asus changed the redirection in later builds to router.asus.com, but asusnetwork.net is now a malware host...

These redirections can be very useful, but the Vendors do need to stay on top of the registrations, lest they lose them - these redirection URL's are very attractive to miscreants..
 
High praise on the other TP-Link thread (deservedly so) and a 'boo' for this mess. :(
