Putting VPN on Asus RT-AC53

Hi

I'm quite new to all this so am quite a novice basiclly Iv'e just purchased an Asus RT-AC53 router and I want to put a VPN service on it. I intially thought I wouldn't have a problem with this and thought suport for OpenVPN came as standard on the router as it did with a router I purchased before. I looked around online which brought me to your page yo install your firmware on the router to access OpenVPN. I have downloaded what I assume is the firmware needed RT-AC5300? but when I come to update it the router keeps saying it's failed to update and reboots. I have tried the latest stable version and beta version but keep getting the same message am I doing somehting wrong or is their a way anyone can offer some advice.

You are confusing models.

The RT AC53 is totally different to an RT AC5300.

This is the specification page for your router :

That shows the VPN's available.

Edited to add : Merlin firmware is NOT available for the RT-AC53.
