QNap/Synology/etc - RAID Software or Hardware?

Hello everyone,

I'm starting to look for a NAS for myself and I was curious to know if the NASes from QNap/Synology/etc were using software or hardware RAID.

Is there a difference in terms of reliability and performance between the two?

Maybe there is a thread you can point me to.

There isn't a RAID NAS I've seen that uses a hardware RAID controller. All use "software RAID", usually mdadm.
