New Around Here
Hi, I'm a student and need broadband at home this summer for distance ed classes. I live on a farm and cannot get DSL or cable because of the distance to the main road (we've lived with dial up so far). My grandfather has cable broadband and lives about 1/4 of a mile from me directly. An open field separates our houses, there are no trees or buildings. I would like to broadcast wifi to my house to share his connection. Can anyone recommend a cost efficient way of doing this so that I can rebroadcast it through my house for my laptop? Any specific hardware? Thanks!

Would this be sufficient?

Thanks for your reply and that website. I found the HD26172. It says it will travel up to 3 miles and it is within my budget restraints. I really don't know enough about the detailed specs to know if it would be fast and reliable enough.

Expect only a few Mbps for speed. Reliability will depend on how strong a signal
and how carefully you aim the two units. Let us know how you make out.

Working Well

Thanks for your help! I just got it all working today and am getting around 9mbps down. I'm quite happy with it.

Thanks for reporting back. Glad you are up and running.
