Question: Reset only WiFI settings to default???

Cain

Occasional Visitor
Is there a way to easily reset ONLY my WiFi settings to default??? I've tweaked my WiFi so much, I seem to have messed it up, and slowed it down.

I'd like to keep all my other settings, and custom device names, etc. Grok says try this to reset only WiFi, will this work, based on your experience?

I love Grok, but sometimes Grok gives bad advice, just wondering if this will truly reset all my Wifi settings. I've never seen this suggested anywhere, other than Grok.

Thoughts? TIA

Exact Steps for GT-AXE16000: Reset Wi-Fi to Defaults Only

This uses the built-in options to clear just the Wi-Fi configs. It’ll revert SSIDs, passwords, channels, bandwidth, Smart Connect, and all tweaks to ASUS stock settings (like ASUS_XX, ASUS_XX_5G-1, ASUS_XX_5G-2, ASUS_XX_6G with the default password from your router’s sticker).
  1. Log in to the web GUI at http://router.asus.com (or 192.168.1.1)
  2. Go to Wireless on the left menu → General tab
  3. You’ll see sections for each band: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz-1, 5 GHz-2, and 6 GHz.
    • For each band, manually set:
      • SSID: Leave blank (it’ll auto-fill to the default like ASUS_XX)
      • Hide SSID: No (unchecked)
      • Authentication Method: WPA2-Personal (or WPA3-Personal if you want modern security)
      • WPA Pre-Shared Key: Leave blank (it’ll reset to the sticker password)
      • Control Channel: Auto
      • Channel Bandwidth: Auto
      • Wireless Mode: Auto
    • Do this for all four bands—takes about 30 seconds per one.
  4. Scroll to the bottom and click Apply (the router will reboot Wi-Fi radios in ~60 seconds).
That’s it! Your Wi-Fi is now factory-fresh.
You’ll need to re-connect devices to the default SSIDs/password (check the sticker on the back of your GT-AXE16000), but everything else (device names/icons, etc.) stays untouched.

Suggest you just save your config, do a factory reset with minimal setup, screen capture the default wifi settings (regular and professional pages), and then restore the saved config.

Thx Rung, Will the Factory Reset wipe out all my custom device names and icons? I'm guessing it will?

Yes, that is why I suggested restoring your saved config at the end. You are then back to where you started but with information about your router's default values.

Btw, not sure if you need to save and restore the jffs as well. Maybe just save it as well in case you do need it.

I re-read your suggestion more closely. Now I got you. Makes sense, I like your suggestion. Thanks! Take care!
