Questions regarding Asus "Router-to-Router" Sync and backup in general.

Hi!

Me and my family will be getting fiber-connection at our cottage house, and I thought this would be an opportune time to create some sort of two-location-backup of sorts.
As our picture and video library from family gatherings and such has begun to grow quite a lot, we would like some sort of insurance from both drive failure and fire etc.
We will probably only add files at our apartment, but the ability to do it in the cottage wouldn't hurt.

From what I've gathered, Asus' current routers have a function called router-to-router sync, that should only require an external HDD on both routers, and I should be set?
Set, as in, if I add a file at either location, they will be synced to the other location, and if I edit a file or such, the file will be changed at the other location as well?

Both location have a 100/100 connection, and we will probably await the new AC87U or equivalent. The speed of the sync is not a concern, as long as it gets done.

Edit: TLDR; What is your experience with Router-to-Router sync?

Thanks in advance!
