Hi all... I'm not that dumb in netoworking but I'm having trouble with the following workgroup of 3 computers in Windows 7. I;m not using the Win7 workgroup functionality but rather sharing the folders I want.

The situation is the following:

I have a bedroom computer and a familyroom computer, both running windows 7 ultimate.
The bedroom computer have 1 user called Apolo
The family room computer have 1 user called Zeus
There are other computer and users in the network but they are only important to understand why I don't want to share the folder with "Everyone".

From the bedroom computer (user: Apolo) I want to give access to just one folder in the family room computer (user: Zeus) and only to this user. I know how to create a share but I'm not being able to find where I can assign the rights to bedroom/Zeus to that folder...

I open the sharing properties and there are users and locations... I delete everyone from there but there is no way to include the user from another computer what I thought would be possible using the location button but this only shows the local machine (bedroom) and its users.

Is it possible to do what I'm trying? Or this will be only possible using a Domain?

Thank you all for the help.

Geeeezzzz... I didn't think it would be that difficult.... will try Fixya or somewhere else. In the meantime if somebody can help me I will appreciate.
:(

hi.

so your trying to hide your porn collection right? ;)

anyway, only DOMAIN has shared users.

and it sounds like your confused between usernames and computer names and sharing.

for workgroups/non-domains, you have to create all users on all computers if you want to be able to access them with consistent user/pass.

in other words, create the user apollo on the family room computer, then you can give apollo permissions to connect to that share.

otherwise, you could try 'connect as a different user', ie on apollo connect as username zeus.

No, porn is hidden with truecrypt... :D It is worse... I want to give my wife access to my quicken files  I did it the way you describe but I was hoping there was an easier solution. Since it is just one folder / user to share it is easy but if there are more computers/users create each one in each equipment would be a pain, moreover when they change their password...

Guess that I will have to setup a Windows Server someday....

Thanks for the help

Cheers
