r7000 vs Vizio TV

I have been using an R7000 with ddwrt for about 3 months now. Few days ago, I mounted a new Vizio TV. Since then my home network has been really unstable. The Vizio is no longer even on the wired or wireless and yet if it is on, my internet speed takes a huge dive. The Vizio has wifi direct for the remote. I can see it in the router wireless survey. It's a strong signal and also will channge channels.

I am ready to try a new firmware or maybe swap out a backup router. I cant believe a TV can do this much, or is it the ddwrt firmware?

edit: nevermind, I think I'll just return the vizio and try another brand.

Anything that operates on the same frequency as the router will interfere with performance. Vizio TV should've used different radio frequency than 2.4 and 5 GHz. WiFi direct is IMO good only for temporary connections but it's just as bad as Bluetooth at interfering nearby 2.4 GHz WiFi network.

I understand Vizio has good support. Have you tried them? From other forum I read an article about bricked Vizio while attempting
f/w upgrade. They sent out a replacement unit. If you are talking about WiDi I tried it and gave up on it. It is good at raising your BP, LOL!

It shouldn't be the remote causing that many problems. I mean, I suppose it could be, but when not hitting buttons on it, it should be doing minimal communication with the TV. My XBox 1 does Wifi direct on 5GHz for the controllers and I see no noticable impact on my 5GHz wifi performance even when my XBox 1 decides in its infinite wisdom to pick the same 5GHZ channel that my AP is using sitting 3 ft away from it. If there is impact, it is sub 10% performance hit. I still get the same general 190-200Mbps to my laptop on 5GHz even when the XBox1 is in use. Might be different if audio out through the controller was being used as that might increase Tx and contention significantly (even though I assume that the audio bit stream would be low, like 30-100Kbps).

I would assume it is some traffic that the Vizio TV is hammering out. LG got caught redhanded sending a significant amount of "private" information back to LG about your network. I'd assume that doesn't use a ton of data, but maybe it does.

I know the Kindle fire media player uses a HUGE amount of data.

Only way to really know what is going on is a spectrum analyzer and/or wiresharking what traffic the Vizio is putting out over the wire and wireless.
