If I setup a NAS in a RAID 1 configuration and the NAS motherboard breaks, can I simply place one of the HDDs in a PC to retrieve the data assuming I have a computer that can read any file-system?
The Acer Aspire EasyStore H340. This is an atom based NAS, so it probably has a PC-like micro-ATX motherboard based on an Intel chipset. The method of RAID would be through the firmware before OS install.
I use RAID1 built into a motherboard, with NTFS windows as the OS. I assume that the drives are mirrors of each other and either can be removed and becomes an ordinary bootable NTFS drive. But I don't know this as a fact, for the nvidia chipset RAID1 I use.
