recover password Asus RT N16

New Around Here
Hi,
I've changed the passwd of my router (ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-N16_3.0.0.4), and, of course, lost it...

I do have ssh key, so I can login.
I managed to temporary change the passwd (editing the shadow file), but, I cannot login using the Web GUI.

Any suggestions where/how to modify to access the gui to properly change the password of both command line and gui (of course, without losing all the configuration, etc..)

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Just for simplicity. I'd reset it to factory default and reload config with password change.
Or you don't want to do it easy way for some reason.

I would lose all my settings. Do you know some method to backup the config, reset and put them back (provided I don't have the gui passwd) ?

Hi,
I never saw a router without provision to back up configuration data. It is part of admin.
feature.

you have to login to router in order to save settings to a file on your PC.

Catch-22.

You'll have to reset to defaults, reestablish settings, then save.
