Regarding Brand Fanbois - some thoughts

Tim has done a great job of curating a community here, but sometimes, in my honest opinion, things to start getting out of hand...

Without mentioning names - items like below...

Stay away from R8000. Lack of support / firmware updates are a concern with that product, and any other Netgear product.

I appreciate your input (really), but 'slightly better' performance is not worth the negatives the R7000 possesses versus the Asus hardware.

These are decent products... they're good products, from a vendor that supports the user base, and the third party in general - and they do support, along with many vendors, the main site.

I'll be the first one to say I've taken a side - with the whole QTN adventure, and some Linksys comments (but I do back those with facts, I must say) and I've taken some heat with my ongoing support of certain devices from Cupertino - so I'm not blameless here... however, I've tried over the few thousand posts to be fair and objective where I can.

Some negatives for me is pushing GPL on some folks - but even there, you gotta admit, it was for the best of the community.

I promise - I'll try to do better... what I ask is others do the same.

Speaking as a community member however, I do appreciate an open dialogue - it's good to suggest that a vendor might have an advantage, but let's not "diss" another vendor - as one person's experience might not align with others.

Some of the friction here with vendor fan-boiism is starting to turn away good members that have much to contribute, but seems like they don't have a voice that might be heard...

Strongly held opinions come with the territory on internet forums. As with any information source, readers / users have to learn who / what to trust and who / what is blowing hot air.

If anyone is feeling abused, they can hit the report button on any post and call it to my attention.
