Remote Administration while OpenVPN Client is connected

While I am connected to my VPN provider with OpenVPN Client, I lack the ability to connect to the router (via router public IP) and remotely administer it. What am I missing? When I kill the VPN I regain the ability to remotely admin.

Depends on your policy rules, but to be safe create a new policy rule that will force the router's IP address through the WAN.
