Hi there,
I jumped on the TM AC1900 bandwagon around Black Friday time, and finally had some time last weekend to reflash back to AC68U and upgraded to Merlin. The experience had been overall positive. Still, a couple issues linger after my best attempt to google up networking terms and making tweaks to various settings. Would appreciate any input to help me smooth out these last couple kinks.
Setup:
ATT is the ISP (DSL, not Uverse). I'm using a Pace (5268?) modem + router provided by ATT, placed in a corner of the house. Both 2.4 and 5GHZ wifi, with distinct SSIDs, are on.
The AC68U running Merlin is placed near the center of the house, running on repeater mode, connecting to the 5GHZ wifi from the Pace modem + router. Both 2.4 and 5 GHZ wifi are on with distinct SSIDs.
I have about half a dozen mobile devices (phone, tablet, labtop) around the house, and about another half a dozen smart devices (Chromecast, smart cam, Nest, Wemo plug) sprinkled in.
Issues:
1. It occasionally takes some of my devices a long time to connect to AC68U's wifi. From what I read from my phone's wifi status, it's 'obtaining IP address'. I gather this might be an inherent problem with repeater mode in general since DFS doesn't work with WPA2? When I log into the Pace, all the devices connected via AC68U shows up as 'unknownxxxxxxxxxxxx'. Are there any ways to address this?
2. The AC68U occasionally disconnects from Pace. When that happens, the AC68U can't see the 5GHZ wifi from Pace (even though my other devices still can). It fixes itself after I reset the wifi on Pace. I suspect this is due to Pace automatically changing the wifi channel? Is there a way to enable all the channels within Merlin?
3. I came across this term 'Enhanced Mode' for repeater, where the repeater accesses the AP on one frequency (say 5) and then broadcasts to clients on another (say 2.4). But I can't seem to find it in Merlin.
Thank you for reading. I look forward to learning a ton here. I will also try to update this post with working solutions once I try them.
