I want to use a router as an access point to extend my wireless coverage. Is it possible to use a router as an access point but at the same time use the extra ports to connect items to the wired network as well?

For example I will have the router in my entertainment center to broadcast wifi into the living room but the Xbox is also located in the entertainment center as well.

Thx

Yes.

The ports on your AP/ repurposed router will be LAN ports.

Just connect the AP to your primary router using an Ethernet cable.

If you need instructions on how to repurpose a router as an AP look for the article on this site.

Most wireless routers I've seen in recent years have an option in their menu to turn them into access points, which makes things even easier.

What router do you have?
