Router to router vpn

Rodrigo Guerrero

New Around Here
Hi. I've been doing research on how to esablish a router to router vpn connection, one acting as a server and one as a client.

I live in Mexico but have a vacation house in the United States which has internet service. What do I need to do to establish a vpn connection between my router in United States and my router in my house in Mexico. This way all my devices in mexico connected to the router would be able to access my usa network.

I bought the netgear r7000 router (read great reviews about it). Does it have the option to work as a vpn server or will I need to flash it with a thirdparty firmware. What about the router I have in Mexico (asus RT-AC87U)? Will I be able to run it as a client?

Also, will I be needing a static ip address or dynamic will do?

Some guidance would really help!
Thank you!

You can use both of your routers perfectly for this purpose.

Set up one as open vpn servers, complete it with DDNS so you won't have to deal with the changes of your WAN ip if you have a dynamic ip from your ISP.

Set the other one as openvpn client.

You can search on their respective forums here on how to setup.
