Router WebGui Crash

After adding some fixed IP addresses in the usual way, suddenly the router presents a page that says:

"A change has been made, causing disconnection to setting page. You may made the change in changing IP address, changing port number or disconnecting Wi-Fi to RT-N66U.Please re-connect Wi-Fi and use modified IP address and port number to access setting page of RT-N66U."

Oddly the router is working fine - internet connectivity, NAS, etc. But even a power cycle doesn't put this back to default. Am I stuck with a full reset?

TIA.

Hi,

Seems the you have changed the routers IP address. The setting is found unter LAN/LAN IP. The default router IP is 196.186.1.1
If you change this address you get the message you have seen.

Now the question is what is the IP address of the router???

You can use the device discovery tool to find the IP address of wireless router: ASUS RT-N66U B1 Device Discovery version 1.4.6.5 from the Asus Download Homepage (section Utilities).

With kind regards

Thanks But IP Didn't Change

Appreciate the response.

I did try running the ASUS tool and it reports the exact same IP address as before for the router. No change. Windows network tool also reports the same IP address, for whatever that's worth.

MAC address search showed the routers MAC address associated with the same IP address as before also.

I wasn't anywhere near the set up pieces that change the routers address, so if it changed, that's also an issue.

I have had the same issue when I just was looking in the sysliog for example.
My solution to the problem : just waited till the next day without doing anything else , just restarted the laptop I had problems to connect to the router. Perhaps we are just a few with this problem ?

I've also had this problem when I'm connected to the router using wireless for admin. This always reminds me to switch to a hard-wired connection to the router for administration, where I don't see this problem.

Maybe I'm seeing this for a different reason than you, though *smile*.

I am now seeing the same issue on my RT-N56U.

I recently updated to the latest official firmware and everything was running smoothly for a few days.

I started some heaving downloading (I have a 100Mbit fiber) and was grabbing ~20 torrents and suddenly was locked out of my network (remoting in from work).

I was not configuring the router in any way, nor had I made any changes in the past 24+ hours. The only real difference was the bandwidth and connections going through.

Hopefully they can fix this for the entire router family.

Hmmm, that's really strange...

Two other thoughts:
a) IP address conflict: Maybe there are 2 devices (one would be the router) with the same IP address on the network?
b) Virus scanner: Typically they have also a firewall which can behaive strangely...

With kind regards

Well, my MAC address scan didn't show an IP conflict & I get the same [useless] page off two different laptops running two different anti-virus programs.

Thanks to all for the responses. I think it's an ASUS software issue.

Are you connecting via wireless on the laptops, and doing admin tasks that way?

If so, suggest that you try a hard-wired connection from your laptop to your router for that.

May have been operator error...

So after a reset and reconfig, all is well.

However, in going through the GUI, I realized there is a page under system that looks to a casual glance to be the static IP page assignment list. Unfortunately, its not, its the allowed to connect list. Hm....

So I thought I would close the loop here and admit this may have been self inflicted.

Thanks to all who responded.
