Am wondering if the RT-AC3200 is a deprecated router as the Merlin firmware seems to be a long way behind the others - 384.13_10 vs the latest 384.19?

Any insight would be appreciated.

From the changelog:
Code:
384.13_10 (28-June-2020)
This release will most likely be the last release for the
RT-AC87U and RT-AC3200, due to limited upstream support.

And it is as up-to-date as possible as of June 28, 2020, too. :)

:( Really? Sure, this router is getting a bit long in the tooth, but still completely capable. Now what options do we have to ensure we're getting updates (particularly from a security perspective) ?? Go back to the stock firmware from Asus?

When this happens (and it does to all routers), I repurpose them to Media Bridge mode service use (only). :)

If you're using it on a public-facing network, jump to stock Asus as (and if) they continue supporting it with security fixes), while missing the RMerlin features, of course.

Another option may be to use it in a double NAT setup behind a router/firewall. Depending on your equipment available.

Conversely, the smallest reasonable upgrade you can do is to move to an RT-AX58U or an RT-AC86U ('AC86U is the better router, overall) will be noticeable in almost any network setup today.

Note that RMerlin didn't stop support, intentionally. Asus has dropped a few models from ever being moved to the newest (386.1) codebase.

The work it would take to support the older models is out of proportion to the time RMerlin has to spend on this project going forward.

It doesn't work like that.

RMerlin needs a GPL code drop to work from.
