New Around Here
Hi, I have this router, currently with ddwrt but I am thinking of switching to Merlin firmware. I have seen that the latest version is this:
This version is from November last year and I see that it will no longer be supported. It's a pity as I see that Asus keeps releasing newer firmwares. Even after the May release of a vulnerability affecting 9000 Asus routers, it is possible that even Asus will eventually patch this router
If they will patch it, I understand that we will be left without that patch with the Merlin firmware. Is there any alternative? i got tired of ddwrt and openwrt is not supported by the broadcom wifi chipset.

I am new to the forum but a user, I hope I have posted in the right place. Thanks for your time

No more Asuswrt-Merlin updates for this hardware. Asus released some emergency fixes lately, no more official firmware updates are expected either. The only 3rd party firmware with still active development for this hardware is FreshTomato:

I will have a look at the FreshTomato firmware. Thanks for the heads up. It's a pity that Merlin will no longer be supported for this model. Well I'm not losing hope if one day Asus will update the official firmware patching the serious vulnerability from May. Maybe the developer will cheer up, I've heard he's a nice guy :-)
Thanks for your time

This is >12 years old hardware device. It's 2025 now and we have 4 generations newer Wi-Fi standards. Time to replace.

I agree, my main router is newer and supports wifi7. I have this router at my parents' house and I will probably change it eventually.

Run latest stock firmware on it then, leave one OpenVPN server running for access. Good enough.
