New Around Here
Hello

I've just picked up an RT-AX88U and an AIMesh Twin pack ( which contains two RT-AC67U. https://www.asus.com/uk/Networking/AiMesh-AC1900-WiFi-System-RT-AC67U-2-Pack/

I've encountered allot of instability with the RT-AX88U which has prompted me to look into using Merlin on it.

I know the Aimesh is unsupported on Merlin which tbh isn't a deal breaker. My original plan was to connect the two RT-AC67U to the AX88U over ethernet backhaul for the Aimesh and also use some of the spare LAN ports on the Nodes to connect a few other devices. To cut a long story short, i've had awful performance on the wired devices connected via the nodes (dropouts etc - cable tested and fine). So i've now decided to run merlin on the AX-88U and put the two nodes into AP mode and hardwire them in. I won't get the Aimesh but i should have roaming coverage.

Does anyone know if the RT-AC67U would be supported by merlin? Im unsure if they are just a rebadged model with newer stock firmware. By the looks of it they also sell a twin pack RT-AC68U which look identical spec wise. Ideally i'd like to put merlin on all.

You can use RT-AC68U firmware or Merlins and John's, its bit ident to RT-AC67U, only different filenames, same like RT-AC66U_B1.

If you’re a new Merlin user you may wish to take advantage of installing custom scripts. It requires a USB flash drive and very little experience at the command line. I use a 16GB Sandisk flash drive. You can use the AMTM menu based tool to automatically format it correctly and install popular scripts for adblocking and enhanced firewall to block malware.
