RT-AC68R - EXT3 Rebooting; Permissions

Need help... I've tried searching and have found others that had similar issues, but could not find the resolutions.

#1 - EXT3 forces the router to constantly reboot.
#2 - NTFS permission issues

Currently running a AC68 with Merlin 3.0.0.4.379.39.0 (latest)

Prior to migrating over to Merlin, I was running the latest Asus firmware - 3.0.0.4.374.583.

I have a Western Digital MyPassport 1.0TB USB 3.0 drive. I'm running Win7, but formatted to EXT3 using MiniTool Home Partition Wizard. Have had much success doing so with my Seagate 1TB USB 2.0 drive, connected to my RT-N16 router on TomatoUSB.

Once the drive is connected (to either USB port), the router will constantly reboot. I've tried other portable HDs that I have (all with EXT3), and run into the same rebooting issue.

USB Interference is disabled.

What am I doing wrong?

#2 - NTFS Permissions... I've spent a few hours, at least on three occasions, moving about 500GB of files back and forth to the USB 3.0 drive, due to going to EXT3, then to NTFS, back to EXT3 after upgrading to Merlin, and then back to NTFS again...

Since I'm stuck formatting to NTFS, I'm having some write permission issues in only a few of the folders.

For example:

Backup\Downloads\Adobe Reader ... I can add/remove/copy files to the "Adobe Reader" folder, but I could not do the same in the "Downloads" folder. Furthermore, I can also add/remove/copy files in the "Backup" folder.

Before I copied all the files over to the drive, I made sure that all users on my Win7 machine have FULL CONTROL to all the folders that I'm copying. I also tried to force and remove any Read Only attributes. I don't know how to get around this?

Thanks in advance.

Actually, I think Ext2 is recommended for USB thumb drives.

For what it's worth to those that are having this issue... I ended up reformatting the drive to EXT4 using MiniTool Partition Wizard. I reloaded EXT2FSD 0.51 and forced it to write to EXT3, rebooted --- using Windows 7 64-bit.

This works fine and ended up using the chmod 777 command to release all of the READ ONLY attributes.

If I format the drive to EXT3, the router continuously reboots. I've tested both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports on my RT-AC68R and tried 3 different drives. Strange.

Back up and running, without having to deal with NTFS.
