Hello
I am using the latest version and download master doesn't work.

transmission-daemon[2528]: Couldn't bind port 51413 on ::: Address already in use (Is another copy of Transmission already running?) (net.c:380)

Has anyone encountered such a problem? Is anyone able to run the download master at all?

As the warning message indicates; are you running Transmission, either as an add-on script, or on a local computer on the local network? If so, that would likely be the cause for Download Master not being able to bind to the indicated port. Or check the router GUI if that port is being forwarded already to another LAN client device.

Otherwise make sure to properly setup Download Master:
[USB Application] How to use Download Master through GUI?
[USB Applications] How to use Download Master through the Windows Utility?

As always, as a basic troubleshooting step one could remove/disable Download Master, reboot the router, then try enabling Download Master through the router GUI. Also make sure to run the latest firmware for your device.

Hello
Thank you, but unfortunately, I have done all your suggestions before posting.
1. I am not running transmission anywhere
2. The port is not in use - the same error is displayed with ANY port
3. I even installed Merlin and still had the same issues.
4. I am using the latest firmware

I tried things via ssh too...there's not enough error log in order to identify the issue. Something is wrong with that app as I do not have anything else set on that router. That is why I asked if someone is using that tool at all.

If you have any suggestions on how to track the issue I will be glad to try them - I'm not a novice user.
I posted about the problem here too, but was told that it is the wrong section for my question:

Could be the Download Master is simply broken. Did a quick install of it (Download Master ver. 3.1.0.110) on a RT-AC68U running the alpha 386.9 Merlin Firmware (also running YazFi and YazDHCP) with a 64GB SSD drive attached to the router's USB 3.0 port. Installing the Download Master app from the GUI does throw a number of errors (see below for some of the Transmission errors) in the system log including the one's you indicated. The GUI for the Download Master is accessible (http://<routerIPaddress>:8081/) and while I couldn't get any HTTP files to download. it did start downloading a random torrent file all be it very slowly. From what I remember trying to use Download Master years ago on this RT-AC68U using stock Asus firmware, I had issues with it not downloading so I gave up on using it and uninstalled it.

Hello
Thank you very much for testing this. On my side it does not start at all and all I get is a text reading: "error" under the torrent name.
UDP Failed to set receive buffer: requested 4194304, got 245760 (tr-udp.c:84)
I fixed the buffers with this:
via SSH.

I didn't think that the installation puts info in the logs. I may give it a last try. Maybe bloating the router with that crap is not a good idea after all.
I've attached a 2TB WD MyPassport on the USB3 port and have mounted it as a network drive on my desktop. Probably downloading from the desktop to the mapped drive is a better idea.

This is going to be a rather long post. Another quick test of Download Master on a RT-AC68U running Asus stock 3.0.0.4.386_49703 firmware with a 16GB Sandisk USB 2.0 flash drive connected to the AC68U's USB 2.0 port.

Used the router GUI to format the flash drive to NTFS before installing Download Master. Samba was enabled (not sure if by formatting the flash drive or just when inserted). Installed Download Master (ver. 3.1.0.110). Didn't see as many errors as was generated when installing Download Master to Asus-Merlin Alpha 386.9. Download Master creates a folder on the USB storage device called "Download2".

Post install. Setup a task in the Download Master GUI to download Linux Mint via torrent (https://www.linuxmint.com/torrents/linuxmint-21.1-cinnamon-64bit.iso.torrent), download is slow. Could either be normal torrent slowness or using a USB 2.0 flash drive (slow read/write speed).

Download Master GUI interface is extremely sluggish.

Tried to download the MP3Tag program (https://download.mp3tag.de/mp3tagv318-x64-setup.exe) download failed.

Tried downloading Raspberry Pi Imager program (https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/imager/imager_latest.exe), download eventually completed.

Get occasional Download Master GUI page unresponsive messages. Have to reload the page.

System Log below starting approximately from when USB flash drive was inserted through installing Download Manager:

Minor update. Doing a hard reset on the RT-AC68U router, reconfiguring then using a USB 3.0 SSD drive (64GB) connected to router's USB 3.0 port, formatted SSD to NTFS, then installed Download Master. The install was significantly faster with USB 3.0 SSD than USB 2.0 Sandisk Flash Drive. The Download Master interface was much more responsive. Downloading a sample torrent file (Linux Mint) was significantly faster.

Thank you very much for your detailed reply and for taking the time to create such a long post.
I gave it a try again using a 32Gb USB stick and formatted it on the router as you said.
It did not work again and I got exactly the same symptoms with the torrent sites that I tries.
Then I tried your link: (https://www.linuxmint.com/torrents/linuxmint-21.1-cinnamon-64bit.iso.torrent) and what a surprise it did work!!!!
Then instead of pasting a link from those sites, I downloaded the torrent file and uploaded it to the download manager GUI - surprise again - IT WORKED.

I put the WD 2TB disk back and reinstalled DM and got the same results as above.

I think the issue is that those sites require login and DM does not download the torrent file from the browser which is logged in and instead it tries to download it from the OS - another process that is not logged in to the site and gets an error. Unfortunately, it displays just ERROR which is not useful to track the issue.

it is rather inconvenient to download torrent files and upload them back to DM. I found extensions for FF and CHROME that you can right-click a torrent file and use "Send to DM" and it will add the torrent directly to DM, unfortunately, because of the login requirements adding the link directly in DM does not work.

Do you have any idea how to workaround this issue?

Thank you again for the help.

Click on the Settings > Bit Torrent (icon) in DM and it should pop up a settings dialog box for torrent(s). Don't remember off hand if that settings dialog box had a log in section for using a specific Torrent service or website but it might. DM doesn't use your computer or it's browser to download files. It runs off the router and processes the files one adds to the DM interface using the router's hardware/operating system. It's possible DM torrent feature has problems with magnet link URL's (see quote below).

If all you want to do is download/upload torrents you may be better off with using Asus-Merlin (if your router is supported) and installing Transmission via Entware, rather than installing and using Download Master. Will require a bit more work under the hood to get Transmission installed and running but may provide a better way for torrenting than using DM.

https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin.ng/wiki/Entware#the-easy-way
https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin.ng/wiki/Installing-Transmission-through-Entware
Asus's DownloadMaster suffers from various issues: old versions of Transmission and OpenSSL, no way to disable aMule which will hog all your bandwidth, etc...

I recommend uninstalling Download Master, and manually setting up Transmission through Entware instead. This will bring various benefits:
  1. Better performance overall
  2. Magnet link support
  3. Most people don't care about aMule or NZBGet - that will cut through the fat.

Hello
Thank you again. I could try merlin with Transmission, but I do not think it will solve the problem of downloading a torrent file from a website that requires log-in. The issue is not that DM can not download magnet files. The issue is that it can not download the .torrent file from the website.
At least I have it working now.
If I decide to dig into it deeper and I come up with a solution for that I will post back here.
I wanted to use this:

Maybe a plugin can be coded to download the torrent file and upload it to the DM interface instead of passing just the link. The latest browser plugin SDKs are quite restrictive and I am not sure that it can be developed at all.
I'll check some other addons too as I did not look for transmission ones like this one:

Have a read of the following link to see how easy transmission really is
https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin.ng/wiki/Installing-Transmission-through-Entware
Then, after installing transmission remote on you desktop,/laptop/android device it's as easy to use as having transmission on whatever device you're using. .
The other benefits include the ability to run it through your VPN.
Access to the folders can be samba (easiest) or ftp.
Download Manager is a hog and can choke your bandwidth.

The issue is that it can not download the .torrent file from the website.
What is the website that is causing the problem with downloading a torrent? What about saving the torrent link file (.torrent) to your computer then open that torrent link file in DM, does that bypass the issue?

Hello
Yes, it's what I wrote. If I download the torrent file and upload it to DM it works.
I tried 2 different torrent sites that require registration - both do not work if I paste a link to the torrent file. I believe they protect the files from being downloaded if you are not logged in, which is causing the problem.

Hello
Let me give some feedback.
I decided not to bloat my AC68U router and tested this on my old RT-AC66U.
Installed Merlin, then had big issues installing ntware and amtm.
Created a swap partition on a USB stick on my Windows then after lots of headaches managed to install amtm.
Then transmission packages had different names and had issues with that too, but managed to install it too.
Got things running and tested and all worked.
Found an extension for Firefox that works perfectly too:

It can download from the sites that Download Master could not.
The speed seems ok and saw 7-8 Mb/s download.

Unfortunately, Transmission seems rather heavy even though they advertise it as lightweight. The CPU was constantly at 100% while downloading. I know that RT-AC66U is not as powerful as the RT-AC68U, but it is a bit concerning.
I do not know if I should waste time installing it on the AC68U.

Saw some threads about performance here:

You said that you tested on the same router, did you check the CPU load? If you still have that set up, could you please post your memory and CPU load?

Thank you.
