I have recently moved to a RT-AC68U, very impressed with it. I connected a USB HD, enabled SAMBA share etc and I can see it from my laptop but can access all folders without entering any credentials. Only admin account has access to it, I have also tried creating a new account and gave access to few folders but still i can access it without being asked for any credentials. Allow guest login is off.

I haven't worked with it long enough to be certain, but one thing I tried that seemed to work when I tested it briefly is that I defined my router login credentials to match my Windows login credentials and then just used the default router user for the shares. That may speed/simplify the access.
