RT-AC86U - No 5G after moving from stock firmware to Merlin 386.11

Hey Guys,

This is the version I downloaded: RT-AC86U_386.11_0.zip
I can't see my 5G SSID on any device. I've tried restoring and resetting my router which didn't help.
I can see under Wireless Log the "Wireless 5 GHz" with no clients connected to it.
Is that a known issue?

Anything else I can do besides moving back to stock?

Update: I reverted back to stock and still can't get 5G.
I did another reset, this time with the wps button - still no go.

Anything else I can try?

Probably your channel is set to a DFS one. If yes, please kindly wait 10 minutes so the router can check if the channel if available. If yes, then 5ghz turns on
If not, it reverts to a non DFS channel and turns on also .

The key is wait 10 minutes.

I have tried changing the channel to 149.

Some gaming bs. Never tried it. I guess it's there because I bought it from a chinese store online.

That's weird. I just changed the wifi region from china to europe and was able to see the 5G SSID.

Not really. If you're in Europe your devices wouldn't have been able to see those other channels because they aren't allowed in Europe.

Yea but I never had to make that change in order to connect to 5G Wi-Fi. Is DFS relatively new to ASUS firmware? I don’t remember seeing it in the past.

No, DFS has been available on the RT-AC86U (in allowed regions) since it was launched.

What country are you in?

I wouldn't buy Chinese specific model for use outside of China. Any brand not Asus in particular. There are some other regulations in China and many consumer communication devices phone home. This router may have other BS built-in.
