New Around Here
Hi Guys,

I just bought RT-AC86U and installed Merlin 384.18. I got 950/450 fibre and I am able to get around 800 to 850 on ethernet but over wifi I am only getting 350-450.

Disabling QoS I am only getting around 250 to 300.

I have smart connect switch on and off but does not make any difference

My 5ghz is on 20/40/80 and control channel auto. Setting it to just 80 affects my speed

I've also disabled airtime fairness which made my chromecast discoverable

Rule of thumb is around 50% - 60% of Link rate and speed over WiFi vs Ethernet. Speeds look ok to me

Always best to set fixed wifi channels. I also feel the Asus stock firmware performs best for me on AC86U.

See if any of these suggestions help.

But as already said, the speeds look normal to me too.

Thanks for your reply. I read somewhere in this forums that speedsnin this router can reach 600 to 650. I am nowhere near that.

Sure, that can be achieved. At least at close range with an AC powered device in Performance mode with optimum settings.

Did any of the suggestions in post four work for you?

Even at close range with a killer wifi on my G7 I still got the same.

I have to make changes once the wife is away :)
