I have a RT-AC86U router which is configured "Enable Web Access from WAN: No". I have read that HTTPS access to the router is better than HTTP because of the "S". So, I changed "Local Access Config" to HTTPS and the "HTTPS LAN port" to a different port. In red, I get "Not Secure" and the HTTPs crossed out. The Asus web site suggests that the problem is "Chrome requiring a signed certificate to verify identity of the device. The default certificate in router is self-signed and doesn't fulfill default SSL policy of the browser." The Asus website goes on to provide a solution using a "Free Certificate from Let's Encrypt". The ASUS page is at https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1034294/ . Unfortunately, the solution seems to require "Enable Web Access from WAN: Yes" which I understand to be a security issue - and I do not remotely access the router.

It would seem that I am better off without https lan access to the router than enabling web access to the router. I suspect I am missing something but I don't get it? Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

I would leave the defaults... no HTTPS and no/never WAN access.

Someone also reported not being able to add an AiMesh node when set to HTTPS.

It's is not an iPhone.

You do not need https to access your router.
