RT-AC87U Constantly Reboots on newer firmwares

Hi, I just bought an RT-AC87U and it's having a very strange rebooting issue.

When running an ASUSRT or Merlin firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.5134 or older, or a DD-WRT build, it seems to work completely fine, but any version newer than (either ASUSRT or Merlin) that causes the router to reboot constantly. The router comes up for a few minutes during which it is possible to access the web gui and whatnot and then it reboots, locking me out for about 10 minutes until it comes back up again.

Any idea what could be happening and how I could go about diagnosing the problem?

I've already tried an NVRAM reset.

That seems odd. I would re download the firmware, and confirm it's the right firmware for our router and try again.

Make sure to manually input your settings and not use a config from a prior version unless you're using John's nvram tool. I did have a problem with enabling the traffic manager on my 87U, so I've left it disabled.

Thanks for everyone's help. I was able to solve the problem by downgrading to the oldest available firmware and upgrading one version at a time with NVRAM resets in between.
