Don't know if i should be the guinea pig after two unstable firmware versions on my router.

I'm installing it now and will report back if anything goes awry.:D AIMesh is incorporated into the main page now.

On wireless - professional when did the radio power adjustment come back?

Installed without reset.
Airtime fairness disabled to be sure streaming devices are detected well.
After one hour streaming is bad again. Youtube switching to 144p. Other streams stopping or choped.
Device discovery slow.
Then disabled " reduce USB3.0 interference" and streaming was ok for 2 hours.
Now bad again. I'm not sure which setting might be the problem. I changed nothing else, and i have no problem with 380 august firmware.

Edit: Router menu client list shows all 10 active devices, after seconds only 5, then only the one i'm logged into the router and after seconds most of the devices appear again. Seems like the router loses the ip connection to the devices intermittent. But why?

The router shows the old stale list, then it initiates a complete refresh. That's why some clients disappear as the new update is under progress, until it finishes, listing all visible clients.

Hi merlin, i know the list gets refreshed, but with previous firmware some clients stayed after refreshing. Here the clients are all gone except my logged in device.
But:
Disabled NAT-Acceleration and internet connection and streaming videos seems to be good again, but all my chromecast devices disappeared when i woke up in the morning. Reboot of the Asus router fixed it, hope not only temporary.

Update: Chromecast Audio devices discovery is very slow, they always appeared instant when selecting the cast button. What may be wrong? CPU is at 3% and RAM at 125MB. So no resource problem.

My wireless problems with new firmware are finally fixed:

After upgrading to 3.0.0.4.384.10007 and still having trouble i did the following:

- Saved all router-settings for security (backup)

- Wiped NVRAM (Full factory reset)

(Updated HowTo from a user here)
"Telnet to your router"
1. Say if its using 192.168.1.1 for its address
2. Enable Telnet in router settings (administration -> system) and save
3. Enable Telnet client service in Windows (Apps & Features -> Programs and features -> Activate or deactivate Windows features -> select Telnet client checkbox - OK)
4. Go to start/run type "cmd" press enter
5. Type "Telnet 192.168.1.1" press enter
6. The login is "root" (if possible) or your "username" the password is whatever you set the password for the router.
7*. After login type mtd-erase2 nvram
8. Now type reboot
9. Wait about 4 minutes, the SSIDs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz will appear (ASUS_xyG).

(*ARM-based routers might use mtd-erase -d nvram instead of mtd-erase2 nvram)

- Setup RT-AC88U with Setup wizard
1. Connected to the Asus_2.4G wireless network, the browser took me to Setup-Wizard
2. Followed the steps with the wizard (ISP, new username + password), didn't select any checkboxes for seperate SSIDs at Wifi-settings (only WPA2-Security and one SSID for both networks)
I restored no settings-backup.
After the setup i changed nothing in the Asus settings menu
, except disable "Airtime fairness" for 2.4 and 5GHz in Asus' Wireless-Professional tab, to have stable Audio-Streamingdevice detection (Chromecasts, Sonos,..).
I noticed Smart Connect is enabled by default, and i changed not a single Smart Connect rule setting. Fortunately it works out of the box!
3. Manually assigned IPs for my audio streaming clients and NAS in LAN-Settings (DHCP server).
4. Unplugged Asus router & modem for 10 seconds, rebooted PCs, smartphones and all other devices. Had to reset my Wifi settings on my printer to reconnect, don't know why, but worked.

- Router works without any problem
1. Speedtest constantly maxed at 75Mbit/sec up & down (= maximum speed)
2. Youtube and other video streaming services work, no connection drop or quality drift to 144p
3. My Audio streaming devices are detected instantly, and play music without problems
4. RAM at 113MB and CPU at 4%
5. Hardware acceleration enabled by default and seems to work
5. Clients list shows all active devices without interupts
6. Smart Connect works out of the box
7. Haven't activated AiProtection yet, i'm afraid it might be the one last thing to mess my router up again. ×

Hope it helps others,
Pappl

This factory reset method better than just hold the factory reset button procedure? Never used it before....

I've never used 6 or 7 and haven't had issues with the last 2-3 firmwares. I think they are most likely the culprit.

I'm curious about that as well. I usually do a factory reset from within the router GUI in the admin section and then follow with a reset using the push-button.

This version finally seems that fix the high cpu use while the aiprotection and CTF are active! @RMerlin anything you can take from this version or need to wait for the Asus to release the code?

I use it and it works great for my home network blocking a pile of unwanted things before they can reach a client.

Ai protection is disabled to me, this time after update, i did not make factory reset, i notice when save settings and do factory reset and then upload settings with ddns, the router don't work well, so every time i update i must factory and set up router again, but i just get tired from set up everytime....will see this time how is it without reset
So far:
190MB RAM used without Ai/

I can't do anything until they release the source code.

Did they remember to turn off debug mode or is the system log still getting spammed?

Yep the sys log spam is gone. :) I am liking this release it really works well and call me crazy but my Roku 3 in the far bedroom went from fair signal to excellent so maybe they pumped up the output some for the mesh even though i am not using it. Any way they did something because it higher then before it never showed excellent before this release stock or Merlin. I only use the 5 GHz band channel 44, 2.4 has been disabled for years.

Decided to upgrade from 7783 to the current firmware, just used the GUI and installed the firmware from there.

The new GUI Seems much slower compared to the 7783, Will try no reset first and see if any of the problems occur as above. So far after 12 hrs still ok .. will see what happens.

I recently updated to this version of firmware as well. Oddly enough, the last two firmwares have been working well for me. Ever since they lowered the power output, my 5ghz signal has been just... ok but sufficient for my small apartment.

So far the update seems to be working ok. With the previous Firmware update I did a full vRam wipe with factory reset; for this update I did not. I'd appreciate some advice on a couple of issues.

1.) Any reason I really should do a full reset, barring issues arising with router performance?

2.)One major issue I've noticed is on my AI protection: I've had 20 two way IPS High threats in the last month and 18 malicious site blocks (not that concerning). What I'm unsure about is how serious the two way IPS threats are, and why they could have occurred while I was out of town (router was on, but no one here to connect and no devices online.)

AI Protection don't work at all with torrents, when downloading 20-30 torrents, cpu1 goes to 100%, cpu2 - 20%, IPTV lags, freeze, time out, the good thing of AI is stopping some malicious sites nothing all.
