In the 386.4 Beta1 forum, mention is made that RT-AX58U V2 is not Rmerlin supported. I can't find anything in the snbforums or via Google what the difference between this unit and the RT-AX58U which is Rmerlin supported. Want to know how you identify the difference between the two units? To join the world of ASUS Routers & supported by Rmerlin want to make sure no model identification mistakes!

Look on the retail box and/or on the unit itself. It should be clearly labeled as a 'v2' model.

So, what's the best answer to nzwayne question: Why some V2 machines are not Rmerlin supported?
There should be exact information on https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/, that "Rmarlin is NOT supporting V2 Asus builds", or with some effort a minified firmware versions might be proposed to support V2's ?

I'm the "lucky" RT-AX58U V2 owner.

That could be the reason, but Asus official firmware fits on V1 and on V2 too. Does official Asus firmware do some magic trick to do that?

Only the very last one from 2022/01/05. The file contains both firmware images. Note the file size difference.

Does official Asus firmware do some magic trick to do that?

Yes. It identifies the router's hardware revision and loads the corresponding firmware image from the same file.
