Hi everyone, I have an RT-AX86U_PRO and wondered can the 5GHz radio just go bad on these? I ask because we recently moved and I had a Spetrum tech come out to try and fix our internet wall outlet, and all was fine, my modem and Asus router were on the floor. I went to move them both to the top of my bookshelf, and boom, my internet broke. I then connected the Asus router to my laptop, and as soon as I logged in, it alerted me to the fact that my wifi radio was off, which I found interesting since I had never seen this before. The tech provided one of their routers to troubleshoot, and well, it worked just fine. Aware as I was that I'm behind in firmware versions, I then upgraded to "3006_102.5_0" on the RT-AX86U_PRO, but the problem returned. I should note the 2.4 band worked just fine, just not the 5.

I would disconnect from network/devices and Hard Reset the router and if the default configuration comes up with no 5.0 signal, then the radio probably died. I would also try this with stock ASUSWRT firmware.

Thanks, I'll give this a shot. btw, I've been contemplating upgrading to a BE router and am curious what is the most dependable BE router with Merlin FW?

It's hit or miss for BE. AX routers are the most stable at this moment. Little if any gains with wifi7 except bragging rights.

I hear ya, most definitely. I'll look forward to trying a Wi-Fi 7 router, but I've now decided to give the GT-AXE16000 a try since the price is now more competitive. Thanks so much for the replies, everyone.

I would try again by flashing the Asus firmware, do a factory reset with initialize then manually configure.

For my use the Asus firmware works just fine especially with the default WIFI settings. Just might be worth a shot. As for the WIFI 7 routers, get one only if you have a need for WIFI 7.
