New Around Here
Hi guys, my name is Gianluca and I think I will find a lot more passionate and knowledgeable people here than at Asus support.
I have a problem with new router in question.
I practically have no internet connection only in upload and only from smartphone.

Network:
D6400 Only modem ( FW 1.0.0.104) -> LAN-WAN -> RT-AX88U (FW 3.0.0.4.386_42820) for the home network

I tried:
- hardware reset, download the firmware from the site and upload it manually
-Merlin firmware
- other channels and bandwidths
- disabled Wi-Fi 6
- various wireless modes (N only, Legacy etc ..)
- disconnected everything and left only one phone connected
- changed the name of the wifi networks to make sure there was only the phone connected
all the tests did not lead to changes.

Phones tested not working (Android 10):
Nokia 6.2
Nokia 6.1
Nokia 5.2
Samsung A31
Xiaomi MiA2

wifi on two laptops works and also computers and devices in the lan.

Fortunately, the house is free of interferers.

In desperation I tried to do a file transfer from phone to pc using FTP protocol with FileZilla and the Wi-Fi works fine.
The connection is there and it is at 86Mps Up and 86Mbps Down from the phone details.

On router displays:
During download
86Mbs Tx | 86Mbs RX

During upload
86Mbs Tx | 1Mbs RX
and then freezes at RX 1 Mbs
but it never actually goes beyond 0.01Mbs.

Although the connection to Wi-Fi works, the problem remains that I still do not have access to the internet in upload despite the Gateway and DNS of the smartphone pointing to the router.

Firewall, Airprotection and QoS turned off

I think it is a compatibility problem of my devices with Wifi AX

Is it possible that all those phones are incompatible?
Some idea?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
Asus support recommended trying to install the firmware 3.0.0.4.386_42095.

Disabling only 802.11ax / Wi-Fi 6 now works.
It is not yet fully configured but at least the speed test work.

Going back two versions I lost

Versione 3.0.0.4.386.42820
1 Fixed IoT devices connection issues.
2 Fixed the fragattacks vulnerability.

Versione 3.0.0.4.386.42819
1. Fix VPN GUI issues.
2. Fix WAN connection issues. Special thanks to Yulei Zhang's contribution.
3. Fix AiMesh related bugs.
4. Minor GUI issue fixes.
5. Upgrade dropbear to version 2020.81
6. Fix buffer overflow vulnerability
7. Fix slowloris denial of service attack.
8. Fix authentication bypass vulnerability.

I will try to finish the configuration in the near future to see if the functions I use work.
Having never bought Asus branded network peripherals, the question in my head is:

can i believe in future updates (shortly) that will solve the problem or rather that i switch to an AC router?

I still have two weeks to return and eventually replace it.

I wanted to change the D6400 modem / router because it wasn't going too well router side.
It was definitely not a good idea to use it as a modem only  (I was hoping the modem side was staying at the top).

AX88U returned and took the Rapture GT-AC2900 and ran into the same problem.

After disconnecting half the network and checking the cables, I think I have found the solution to the missing upload bandwidth.

I have installed an old DGND4000 as a modem only and it seems to work even better than before, better download and better upload.
Now I keep the net under observation for a few days and see how it goes.

The wifi coverage of the AC2900 is much better than the AX88U.
The AC2900 also has Link Aggregation (not tested yet) so if everything works fine I'm fine.
