RT-N12 firmware version numbering ?

stevech

Part of the Furniture
Bought an RT-N12 for $35 at Fry's (an impulse), to use only as an access point (not routing).
So far, working fine with iPad, iPhone, HTC-One phone.

Overly curious I am, the firmware version displayed in the admin screen starts with 3.x... but on the ASUS web site for firmware downloads, I didn't see anything similar or higher numbered. Web site had versions from 2010.

Perhaps there's a different web site to use?

There are indeed numerous revisions of the RT-N12, make sure you get the correct revision. Asus's download page usually even has a picture of the router so you can do a quick compare - recent models like the RT-N12D have the black diamond look of the RT-N66.

thanks... first time I searched ASUS' website for new firmware for this device I didn't come across the "D1" version of firmware. Reading the above posts, I searched again including D1 in the search term and came upon the proper firmware.
So I now have one rev newer than what came pre-installed.

Impressed that this low cost router/AP enables up to 4 guest SSIDs.

Working fine as an AP so far. It's on the far end of a MoCA based feed from the WiFi router in another part of the house.

Yeah I have a few. I wish they did client mode though, I got them for that purpose first but AP mode is an amazing addition shirtbag companies usually charge hundreds for.

The RT-N12 is the router we most often sell to our customers at work. For its price it's a really good deal. Quite a few of those customers are also using them as repeaters.
