RT-N56U 2.4 ghz Latency

Voluntus

New Around Here
I am having issues with the RT-N56U router. At random, I would experience high latency that goes up to 1 thousand ms while pinging the router in CMD. I also notice request timed out alot. This also occurs while gaming and I am now afraid to play multiplayer because I will often lag. This is the 3rd RT N-56U router I have tried. (I RMA'd the last 2) So I am sure that these are not lemons.

-I am on channel 11, I have pinged my router with 2 different computers and the results are still high ping at times.
-LAN works fine so it is not a internet issue.
-5ghz works fine, while testing on the phone, I would receive 1 mbps on 2.4 ghz and 14 on 5 ghz.
-I am sure that there are nothing that is currently interfering with it.

I would like to tap into the expertise of this community and ask for help.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

What firmware and version are you using? What is the quality of the server you are connecting to? Can you use a different server?

How do you know there is nothing interfering in your environment?

Is there no lag at all when wired?

Have you changed any of the defaults of the firmware you're using?

Have you tried a reset to factory defaults and manually enter only the minimal required to connect to your ISP and secure the router?

Have you tried different DNS settings? Have you tried other channels? What channel width are you using on the 2.4GHz band?

Note that the testing you do on the phone isn't accurate. The phone is leaning towards saving battery life, not giving the best wireless performance it can. Not to mention the small antennae (and there is usually only one of them too).

Have you changed any wireless options on your client from their defaults? Have you done any other tweaks to the OS?

Finally, what are the distances and positions of the router and the laptop? Is the router free from any obstructions all around? Is the laptop facing towards or away from the router? Put the router as high as possible and as far away from walls, floors and ceiling too. Is the laptop plugged in and in high performance mode?

Hi,

Throughout my 3 routers, I have used the latest asus firmware, that is the 3.0.0.4.374_5656 version. There is no lag whatsoever while wired. I have tried default and optimal settings (settings recommended by asus support rep) I have tried restoring factory firmware, as well as multiple dns servers. I tested with 2 different computers. I am on channel 11, I have tried multiple channels.
The reason for me mentioning my cell phone is because it is the only device I have with dual band functionality, and I can see while on 5ghz its fine.

I have moved both laptops around, both far and away from the router, and latency issues persist.

My issue is similar to another thread posted on this forum: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=7741

Thanks for the suggestion, I have just upgraded it and issues persist.

After a full reset to factory defaults and manually entering minimum required settings to connect to ISP and secure the router?

There must be some crazy interference at 2.4 GHz coming from somewhere. Any cordless phones that use 2.4? microwave inbetween you and your router?

If you've exhausted the channel width, channel number and resetting to defaults options, then it has to be your wireless environment.

Can you test your specific router at a (very) different location, like at a friends? At least that would rule out the hardware.

I will try moving my router away from possible interference, but hardware should not be an issue because this is my third router.

Unless you have an RF analyzer at your disposal, moving it within your current location will not prove anything one way or another. As the interference may be from a completely unexpected source.

That is why I suggest a completely different environment, like at a friend's house or business.
