RT-N56U on FW 1.0.1.4o...Do I Need to Upgrade?

Enzown

New Around Here
Hi everyone, I've had my N56U for a couple years now, and have been afraid of upgrading to any other firmware because the one I'm on now doesn't seem to have any problems.

I'm wondering if I should bother upgrading? I'm certainly not a "power user". I just want to get the best speeds, and the best connectivity with my mobile devices.

I see I have some options with custom firmwares, as well as the official one, obviously.

Do all these new firmwares just have extra settings, without improving performance/connectivity? If so, I guess I still have no need to upgrade...

Thanks for any input. :)

Enzown,

Last month I purchased two ASUS RT-N56U devices. One for a router and the other an wired access point.

Both arrived with Firmware Version: 3.0.0.4.374_239

I read online this particular version of firmware reduced wireless coverage. Coverage was indeed worse than the ASUS RT-N13U and RT-N16 they replaced.

I ended up installing Padavan's custom firmware version 3.4.3.7-072. Immediately I noticed both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz range improved quite a bit. I'm now very satisfied with the wireless range & performance of the router and access point. Its very easy to install too. Just download the version you want and load the file just like the stock ASUS firmware. It couldn't be simpler.

Let me know if you have any questions. :)
