Rt-n66r causes Apple TV to drop on 5ghz

Wdfly

New Around Here
My 66r (just got it yesterday) is causing my Apple TV to do strange things. Every time I turn it (atv)on after several hours of being asleep it tells me it can't connect to iTunes but connects as soon as I hit the button again. Also while streaming content like Netflix or radio over the device it stops at random intervals forcing me to start over. I have the latest firmware 260 and I installed that from 176 that came on before changes settings.

I've also installed Merlin's latest beta build 19b with the same issue.

The Apple TV is just a few feet away frm the router and I've turned off enhanced interference setting. I'm running 185mw on the power settings on both bands.

Any ideas an to what would cause this? The range son this thing is mind blowing so I really want to get it working properly.

Try to leave output power to the default value of 80. Increasing that value can lead to signal distortion, which might affect overall stability.

Beyond that... It seems that a lot of reported issues so far involves Apple products. Another case where Apple decided that established standards were not "good enough" for them I suppose, and they twisted it in a way that only their own router are guaranteed to be fully stable with their products. <sigh>

I've turned the power down but the range that I am now getting is no better than the e4200 that I was hoping to replace with the 66r. I haven't had time to see if its solved my problem yet. If it did then ill try tweaking the power some to see how high I can go without getting drops and if it doesn't fix it then ill likely just put my 4200 back in line. The only things I was looking to achieve was greater range and to hopefully force the 66r to channel bond where the 4200 and its way over sensitive good neighbor policy won't bond at all.

i also failed to mention that this router is only being used as an access point and is in bridge or access point mode.

What are your wireless settings? Are you using both 2.4 and 5GHz? What channels are you using? 20 or 40MHz or both?

2.4ghz is n only, bg prot unchecked
40mhz only
100 mw power

5ghz
40 MHz only
100 mw power

The enhanced interference option is disabled.

Not sure what else is important.
