RT-N66U losing internet only on laptop?

I've had my RT-N66U for about a year and everything has been working fine until recently. My laptop and the router don't seem to get along, for some reason the internet stops working for a few minutes randomly, ping is horrible, speed tests are slow, can't load router page (still connected on wifi). I have tried resetting the router, upgrading the firmware, but nothing seems to be helping. The only thing that helps is changing the ip on my laptop and the internet works fine for most of the day then craps out randomly again. Now, for some reason my laptop is the only device this happens on, my cell phone and pc work fine. Any ideas?

Sounds like the problem is with your laptop.

Try removing your wireless profiles on laptop. If that doesn't work, uninstall your wireless driver on your laptop and reinstall (reboot your laptop). Might as well check for an update on Asus website for router firmware and also check for laptop wireless driver update from both the laptops manufacturers website and the wireless card manufacturers website. Use whichever driver works the best.

Another thing, if there are not many devices connected to the router reduce the range of
IP addresses under the subnet, like 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.20. Run namebench, find
out best DNS for your router.

I guess your laptop is in another Workgroup than any other machine in your network including your router.
The default for Windows machines is WORKGROUP.

Check your router:
USB application>Servers Center>Miscellaneous setting
Check the Work Group name.

Check your laptop:
Control Panel>System>Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings>Workgroup

These should be equal, otherwise change your laptop.

Thank you all! I have performed every suggested solution and so far so good!

For the workgroup, both my laptop and router were/are on WORKGROUP, but I have enabled Force as Master Browser. It no longer shows those errors in the logs. Good?

Sounds like your router runs a Merlin build firmware, you should have mentioned that to be pointed to the solution you found (the Master Browser features lacks in the stock builds).
