Samba Share on ASUS 68U no longer working

mbaker

New Around Here
Have a samba share set up on my router using an external USB3 drive. Was working well for a number of days (Macbook as well as Raspberry Pi connecting and reading and writing to the share with no issues) but it now no longer works. The specific behaviour I’m seeing now is;
  • With Mac OS, any attempt to connect to the drive (I’m using Finder / Go / Connect To Server) now hangs for ages and doesn’t succeed any more or simply shows an error message “There was a problem connect to the server….”
  • With the Raspberry Pi, I can mount using the same command I was successfully using before, can navigate around the share directories, however if I attempt to read or write files, this hangs.
Everything seemed to be working fine until yesterday. The only things that come to mind that might somehow have “broken” this is that yesterday I ran a number of Carbon Copy Cloner file-copy jobs between the network share and my Mac OS local hard drive - the drives became unmounted from Mac OS during the backup jobs. I remounted them, retried the CCC jobs and they kept failing part way through due to Mac OS seemingly unmounting the shares. I tried this 4-5 times but now I can’t even mount the drives to try it anymore.

I’ve swapped out the USB Drive from the router to another drive and the behaviour appears to be the same.

Any pointers gratefully received!
