SD card on the N66U

Just wondering if anyone has used the built in SD card slot for any purpose, storing media, saving configuration, applications, swap, commands and service etc. I was also thinking that the sdcard could also be a viable extension to the limited NVRAM.

Settings can only be stored in nvram. Beside, the nvram issue has been fixed with build 220, which extends to the full 64 KB - more than enough for storing your settings.

The internal sdcard slot works just like if you were using a USB disk, with the same usefulness and limitations.

I am running optware on it i use it as swap ( NOTE : you don't need swap haha an it is certainly not recommended for flash storage it can wear out quickly )
I store my configuration backup files there made with the router UI, i store my VPN certificates on it.
Use it as a backup for whole firmwares.
NVRAM yeah well its what merlin said there is more then enought with merlin-wrt so.....

I mounted a microsd card 32gb class10 Adata formatted ext3 and it's quite ok, the reading speed is 10-12 mb/s but writte speed is very low, like 1 mb/s and is pausing for 4-5 seconds, so I can't use it for media playing :(
Maybe the built in Multi Flash Reader has this speed limitations

Can I use the SD card exactly the same way as USB disk can be used, like FTP/Samba/DLNA/Off-PC Download etc?

Not through the web interface, no. The router only displays USB devices, anything involving the sdcard has to be done manually through telnet/ssh.

Quick question, how do I ssh? I'm running stock firmware.

You can't. Stock only supports telnet, which can be enabled on the Administration -> System page.

Class 10 is the way to go these days. No point in buying a slower Class 6 just to save 2-5$.

yes, but i have in my phone CL6 and want to buy CL10. But i dont know witch CL i put in router and phone... I want use in router swap memory...

Just purchase the Class 10 card. Your phone can use Class 10, but it may not achieve the full speed a Class 10 can provide. Same thing for the router.

Class 10 is just a speed rating, it's backwards compatible with devices that cannot use the full speed of the card.

I don't think you will see difference because I had an Adata 32Gb Class10 MicroSd and the speed was very poor, at maximum 1 Mbit/s.
You may use the MicroSd card only for some scripts, conf. or logs, don't expect to download torrents or to run some webserver on it.
