Setting up Asus RT-N66U and RT-N10+ to extend wireless?? HELP!

Llmavll

New Around Here
Hello,

I have a main router (Asus RT-N66U) and it is on my main floor near the front of the house, when I am outside the backyard (down one level also) my signal is fairly weak and sometimes drops right off. I need a signal outside to run my speakers and such off my iphone 5 through a Pioneer amp and iPhone app also such things like Slacker Radio app etc. It works already as it currently is setup but I need to increase the range.

I have bought a RT-N10+ for downstairs near the back of the house to use in repeater mode or AP mode....but it doesn't seem to work or make any difference. I cant say for sure if I have it setup right. I have a hardwire ethernet wire direct from the Asus RT-N66U (upstairs router) available to plug into the RT-N10+ if required. Also where the lower router RT-N10+ is located I would also to use it (RT-N10+) with several hard wired devices (ie TV, another Pioneer reciever, and Boxee Box) but could use a switch if required.

Can someone please explain what my best option of setup is...detailed if possible....thanks in advance.

Also I do not want to have to switch wireless SSID's, I would like it to be seemless and all called the same SSID.

Thanks very much in advance,
Cheers
Kris

Hi

I have almost the same configuration, but a RT-N56U instead of RT-N66U. In the beginning, I used the repeater mode of RT-N10+. But it is very unstable. Besides, you will loose half the speed of wireless signal.

So, I put RT-N10+ in AP mode and conected it to my main router RT-N56U by cable. It rocks solid ! No more troubles ! And I also connect my TV, DVD player, mini system TEAC and others devices in RT-N10+. Just one thing: in the RT-N10+, I am using another SSID name .... guess it is better to the wireless devices to choose the best signal.

Hope I helped.
