Setting up the N16 as a HUB

GeorgeRace

New Around Here
I am new to this forum and have a question on using a router as a hub.

Here is what I want to do. I want to use WireShark to monitor all the internet tracffic on my network. My main router is a RT-AC68U. I have a RT-N16 that I want to configure as a HUB and connect it between my ISP MODEM and the AC68U.

Doing that I will be able to use a laptop connected to the N16 to monitor all traffic from and to the internet using WireShark.

I guess I am thick headed when it comes to setting up the parameters I need in the N16 to make it act as a HUB. I have found some examples on the web but there is never enough "step by step" detail for me to follow to make it work.

So far no matter what I tried it just will not work the way I want. I can get the N16 it to pass the internet through, but I always end up with my wireless AC68U network connections somehow attached to the N16, even though the wireless signal is coming from the AC68U. And yes, I do have the wireless turned off in the N16.

I am connecting the ISP MODEM cable to the WAN port on the N16 then connecting one of the LAN ports on the N16 to the WAN port on the AC68U. So I know the "HUB" is setting between the internet and the AC68U Router.

Boy, am I ever confused I guess.

Any help with setting up the N16 to act as a hub would be appreciated.

Thanks,
New User George

What are you looking for is a 'mirror port'. I recommend a suitably switch for that kind of operation.
