Little Ghost

New Around Here
Hi all, new to the forum hoping for some advise on this.

I have been using Shadow’s cloud PC service with their Shadow Ghost box for a couple of years now to stream wireless PCVR sim racing titles to my Quest 1 via Virtual Desktop. This works very well and to be honest I still marvel at the technology that allows me to stream VR data from a VM in Paris whilst communicating all my usb data back and forth with very little latency.

Anyway, the issue I’m having is that when someone else is on the network watching Netflix etc I get horrible lag spikes. I’ve tried everything I can think of to separate myself from the family network but I wondered if anyone could provide any suggestions as the usual VD Networking tricks don’t seem to work with Shadow.

Network Specs:

  • ISP Virgin Fibre 200mbps
  • ISP Router: Hub 3
  • Secondary router Asus RT AC-86U
  • Shadow Ghost
  • Quest 1

Configuration 1:

  • Hub 3 in modem mode cat 5 from LAN port into Asus WAN
  • Hub 3 WIFI off
  • Asus in router mode
  • 2.4 & 5ghz split from Asus- only my gear on 5ghz, family on 2.4ghz
  • Shadow desktop stream set to 1mbps, connected via Ethernet to Asus LAN
  • Quest connected to Asus thru 5ghz
Result:

Works very well but heavy or bursty streaming by family causes VR to lag or freeze badly

Configuration 2:

  • Hub 3 in router mode. cat 5 from LAN port into Asus WAN
  • Hub 3 WIFI 2.4ghz on, 5ghz off
  • Asus in access point mode
  • Asus broadcasting 5ghz only- only my gear on 5ghz, family on 2.4ghz
  • Shadow desktop stream set to 1mbps, connected via Ethernet to Asus LAN
  • Quest connected to Asus thru 5ghz
Result:

Quest will not connect to Virtual Desktop

Shadow functions normally

Configuration 3:

  • Hub 3 in router mode. cat 5 from LAN port into Asus WAN
  • Hub 3 WIFI 2.4ghz on, 5ghz off
  • Asus in access point mode
  • Asus broadcasting 5ghz only- only my gear on 5ghz, family on 2.4ghz
  • Shadow desktop stream set to 1mbps, connected via Ethernet to ISP Router
  • Quest connected to Asus thru 5ghz
Result:

Virtual desktop connects properly and runs very well until family streams, causing short but frequent stutters

Thanks in advance
