New Around Here
I am building a small network. I am debaiting either the Asus GX-D1241 V3 or the Cisco SG 102-24.

does anyone have any experience or thoughts about either of these?

I find the reviews on this site (smallnetbuilder.com) and also the user reviews on Newegg are pretty good. I would say any of the top 5-10 rated/selling gigabit switches at Newegg won't let you down, especially unmanaged switches, they are kind of a commodity. I would only avoid no name brands.

I run a D-Link myself, for no other reason that it gets the job done and the price was right. I have a mix of networking equipment vendors and everything else personally.

Thanks!

I know the Asus has loop detection, is that any good, or just marketing?

It's good marketing that they planted that seed in your head to ask for it! ;)

Just stick with any of the top sellers/top rated at newegg, avoid brands you haven't heard of, and you'll get the same features in all. Like I said, wired unmanaged switches are totally a commodity product, they all will fall within the same networking specifications & standards.

Also I like buying gear at Amazon because they are very easy going with returns. But if newegg has better price, can't go wrong w/ them in general.
