Small ping spikes when connection is unused

-AndyH-

Occasional Visitor
I have a website monitor my connection which pings my router every sec and charts the responses.

This is the graph from the last 24 hrs:

When the connection is unused, there small spikes in the max ping (yellow spikes) which other people with the N66U see on their graphs too.

Any ideas why this happens? I've tried two other routers and they don't show any spikes when no one is using the connection.
