Smart Connect GT-BE98 PRO

Does anyone know what makes Smart Connect on GT-BE98 PRO to turn itself on, considering that all 4 bands were setup individually and worked that way for a while...?
Would this be caused by adding nodes to it by any chance?

And there is no way to turn this Smart Connect off :(
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You may discover that SmartConnect is not a bad thing. Also, it is best to run Asus firmware on the AiMesh nodes.

I am an old fashion guy and like to do my own connections ;) Don't really like all this "smart" approach.
Also, what exactly makes the stock firmware on the nodes better than Merlin's?

You can't turn off Smart Connect anymore.
The only way to disable it is to separate all your bands with different SSIDs.
Many users in online forums have reported that disabling Smart Connect resolved their connectivity issues. However, since Asus has removed this option in their routers, it's possible that the feature has been improved and is now more reliable.

Because the logic is different now and better. I also don't have such thing on my UniFi system. If I assign the same SSID's to different bands what Asus calls Smart Connect gets activated automatically. Changing the way things are done is natural evolution of software, but Asus could leave pointers in GUI. This change is not documented yet and users don't know.

Ubiquiti made UI changes with the last UniFi OS update and they did this:

Everyone who clicks the "old way" icon gets redirected to the "new way". This icon will perhaps disappear with next updates because the users now now what to do. I clicked this icon few times, now I know and don't have to search online what to do.

i get you, i never used smart connect and after not factory resetting my router in a few years and after multiple merlin firmware updates i decided to factory reset today, normally i setup the ssids for 2.4GHz and 5GHz seperately but thought i would use smart connect today and give it a try, fair play works as intended so far, whether i go back to the old way not sure yet lol.

Thankfully my RT-AC86U is on merlins 386 branch and smart connect is still an option to turn it off, guess it only applies to newer models on later branches.

I am an "old" guy. Programmed NC machines with 7 hole punch tape. Was brought up on DOS (did document imaging on DOS with a 386 PC) then WIndows 3.1. I keep moving on and trying new things. Health issues are now keeping me from messing up the home LAN too much just in case I should not be here but I sneak some "testing" in once in a while.
These newer routers work pretty good with the default settings!

I have all my bands separated, different SSIDs, I even gave them all a unique password (just in case) and after a third try of reverting the router to the manufacturer's settings and starting all over again from scratch - I can positively say that the "separate state" works for a while and then changes itself to Smart Connect ON, it shows all 4 bands ticked, however trying to untick 1 or 2, or changing the the name of the new (hidden by default SSID) or providing new password for it - won't work because the Apply button on the bottom
of the page doesn't work at all.
I will run 1 more test from scratch to see whether adding nodes to the system changes the behavior of Smart Connect.

To answer my own question: Smart Connect turns itself ON after adding nodes to the system even if they are under ethernet backhaul, UNLESS - the main router gets the ethernet backhaul mode turned ON (Ai Mesh -System Settings) PRIOR to adding the nodes.
