And it also happened with earlier firmwares, I install USB as EXT2 or 3 and this is like the 4th USB to be unusable, suddenly after a while and i only install ab-solution on it, it becomes unwrittable and any action i do it on it it just won't let me:

I have to take it out, format it again somewhere on windows and get it back in and reconfigure it...

Any reasons or solutions?

Lets just start from scratch. Format and NAME the drive. Then install again. Make sure you install swap as well. Let this go and test. Don't install anything else other than what is found in AMTM by @thelonelycoder. Come back and let us know how it went.

The other thing is....windows is not a good platform to format linux partitions. If you can boot up a Ubuntu Live install and format it from within Ubuntu.

I followed the exact same steps, this is the 4th USB to do the same thing, I can only format using easeus partition format to format ext3, I then install no other thing than entware, absolution, dnsscript and freshJR it works perfectly for a couple of days, then suddenly it becomes super hot and then if i try to access sh ab-solution i get this:

I Already creaed SWAP file, this is becoming really annoying, what should I do about this?

Ten I have to remove the USB and then the router works fine...

I have the same problem repeatedly, and i cant find a a solution every week or so i have to reformat it...

Don't use Ext3 with USB keys as the journaling on it will kill the flash fast. Use Ext2.

Did you have any luck with this at all?

I have a Asus RT-AC88U running Merlin 384.5
I can read everything but cannot write to the attached drive.

I recently swapped out a RT-AC68U with the same firmware and this worked with no issues. Driving me crazy at the moment.

So you think its a faulty router?

ext2 is still the filesystem of choice for flash-based storage media (such as SD Cards and USB Flash Drives) because its lack of a journal increases performance and minimizes the number of writes, and flash devices have a limited number of write cycles.

Well after spending the day trying to sort this issue, I have finally solved it. It may be a different issue to your own though.

Basically since the update to windows 10 when they dropped homegroup I have had a lot of issues and had no idea that it might mess up how it tries to connect to the router.

Long story short I found some help online that told me to do the following.

Ensure that SMB 1.0 is manually enabled

If Network computers are not showing ensure that SMB 1.0 is enabled. Maybe that will help. You will be able to do it via Control Panel > Programs & Features > Turn Windows features on or off.

Now everything is working as it should and the router shows under network along with my networked printer.
more importantly, I can read and write with no issues now.
