I bought the Asus RT-AC5300 a couple weeks ago. It started doing this out of the box and I'm not sure if it's defective or not. The issue happens when I'm both wired and wireless. The connection will slow down to zero, and basically stop working BUT it doesn't exactly drop the connection. For example if I'm downloading a large file I'll be downloading at around 30 mb/s then it will get slower and slower until it reaches 0 then speed back up. Also if I'm playing a game it will show that everyone else disconnected but I don't get "disconnected" it just shows everyone else as disconnecting. Same thing happens if I'm using a wired desktop.

Check your Internet connection. Sounds like packet losses to me, at a first glance with so little information.

If I directly plugin to the modem then I don't have this issue, or previously I tried a Linksys EA9500 and didn't have this issue. Before I tried the Linksys I had a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 with no issues.
